Day 167 - Golden Gate Gang & The Convict!

Another early start as Natalie, Lindsey and me caught the first ferry to Alcatraz, fascinating place and the audio tour is really informative and gives an atmospheric experience.  We met a former inmate who has just written a book and as you can see from the picture below I tried so hard to incarcerate another!  But they wouldn't take her.....

Melissa didn't fancy the cells of Alcatraz so headed off round the streets and parks of San Fran on a bike...she found bison and did a bit of shopping in Hippy Haight!

The Alcatraz3 arrived on the island with part-sun and a few hours later departed in total cloud and a bitter coastal breeze!  After our escape from Alcatraz we wandered the piers and saw the sealions - Pier 39, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about! Tacky overload....

Then from tacky to traditional...our rendezvous spot with Melissa was the Buena Vista Cafe, famous for its Irish Coffee!  Great place, wonderful atmosphere, delicious burger and the charasmatic waitress Diana....who's parting words to everyone was "See you tomorrow"

After our lunch at BV, we set off on the Golden Gate challenge.....we walked all the way to the bridge, across it and then down to a lovely town called Sausalito on the other side!  Knackered, we found out the ferry time back to the city and collapsed in a Mexican restaurant with an alcoholic reward!!!

Once again one by one we slipped into zombie world.....in bed by 9.  Tomorrow we pick up the car and head to the vineyards of Napa!
